ASBY’S NEW OUTDOOR CLASSROOM
7th May 2010
Head teachers and Chair of Governors past and present came together to celebrate the opening of Asby Endowed School’s new outdoor play area for Early Years Foundation children.
Part of the requirements for Early Years is that they have an outdoor play area, and the new area at the front of Asby primary was partly built by former pupils and local builder Steve Alderson.
Steve was responsible for the sun shelter, while Pentagon provided and constructed the remainder of the play area at the school.
And the children were also involved in the design and choice of equipment, with members of the school council selecting many of the play items in the new area.
Head teacher Roy Chambers and Chair of Governors June Clayton invited their predecessors retired head teacher Rick Willett and former Chair of Governors Cath Gibbons to join the opening celebrations which was followed by a fundraising coffee morning.
The children’s chosen charity was Diabetes UK. The money raised from the coffee morning will be divided 50/50 between the charity and Friends of Asby School.
