Having just read a review of the book “The Mumsnet Rules”, in the FT online, www.ft.com, can I say how happy I am that this book has come out!! And could I also add: let’s allow children to play like children too. Hopscotch and Tig, not re-enactments of Britain’s got Talent!!
I do understand, however, that schools need to tap into the ‘Youff’ culture of today, but reinforcing their TV idols and programmes is going a little far. Get children outdoors, playing and exercising, while staying healthy! Isn’t that just common sense??!

A piece of research reported today in the Daily Mail that obese children do not perform as well in exams compared to those who eat healthy foods. The Food For Life Partnership research concluded that if they ate good food at lunch, children concentrated better in the afternoons and therefore obtained better marks in their exams. The fact that some participating schools also set up their own gardens during the experiment, meant that they could see the difference in the children’s eating habits, once they were taking an active interest in their food/vegetables.
