A lot of children are used to spending almost all of their time in house, watching TV or playing on the computer. Outdoor classrooms are designed to get children to spend more time outdoors, in harmony with the Earth. Outdoor classrooms are places for studying integrated in a natural area that is ideal for setting up students who would like to learn, making their personalities interact with the real things they are studying. Environmental education can be done in outdoor classrooms and can refer to math, English, science, physical education and art. When children learn about what’s surrounding them, they will know how to formulate decisions that use up the resources of the Earth.

How to set outdoor classrooms

You first need students and teachers. Decide upon all of the details of the outdoor classrooms: what are they going to be about, what do you want to achieve with this project?

How to choose the perfect space

You have to find an area that is very close to the school, so you’d better contact some parents or teachers. If you are new at this, you’d better center your attention on how to use the surrounding area to your benefit. In time you can start building up a natural ecosystem.

How to maintain the space

The outdoor classrooms can be maintained very easily and can also attract a lot of visitors. You can plan a program that includes cleaning up, maintaining a bird feeder and planting trees and plants. You can prune trees and check the plots of the food.

Here are some project ideas

Start up a project that you find important. You might want to set up a garden for butterflies or pile compost. Maybe you like birds and a bird house is the plan for you; then, you can plant orchards of apples or other fruits. But first you will have to make the actual classroom with chairs and tables.

Outdoor classrooms don’t need to be very modern or elaborate; you need to just have a sheltered space that you will create, so that people can learn directly from the nature all they need to know. You should find a fertile ground that is surrounded by natural life, so that they can learn best through observing what’s going on around them. You can even expand the outdoor classrooms after a while for the purpose of developing a healthier environment.

The varied canopies and coloured sails are the perfect answer for educational authorities and schools that want to give school shelters. Universities, schools and colleges do a lot with the resourcefulness and sturdiness of school shelters, gazebos and umbrellas. Instead of teaching the students in class rooms they can take them outside and teach them there.

The school shelters have a lot of options that you can use. You can build them into classrooms that can be taken outside, very intricate and interesting building entrance ways and bicycle shed to protect the students’ bicycles. Combining the shade of school shelters and structures of tension, you can make a whole new area that can support normal class room sizes from the extremely warm heat of the sun, providing the students with a cool environment to learn in.

You have a lot of options to choose from. Gazebos that stand on their own, school shelters shades, or a combination made of umbrellas that can be transformed into areas where parents can wait, walkways between classrooms or blocks, or simply stands that are protected with shades for special events. Many colleges and schools organize outside events during summer and they need school shelters that are sturdy and sometimes even permanent buildings to give the audience coverage and to make the event safe.

These school shelters are made from very sturdy and rough materials to be able to put up with gusts that are strong and to give full protection against UV light and rain. You can easily teach in these structures, because they provide the perfect combination of protection from the sun. Some colleges use school shelters to put them up around swimming pools, playing areas or sand pits, in order to change the way that a teacher uses a classroom.

You will find a lot of colorful school shelters that simply make the play-ground better and you will find a lot of patterns and materials that are guaranteed to last for a long periods of time before fraying or tearing up. These school shelters are made from a very strong fabric that can be very easy put up and the school shelters are also very easy to clean up and do not form mold or mildew.
Renowned brands make and put up a large variety of school shelters or the so called canopies that are used in nursery schools. They put school shelters in primary schools and secondary schools, classrooms that are outdoor, school shelters that cover play pits, playground areas, areas for parents, shelters for the garden, recreational classrooms and a wider range of even more uses and rooms.
You will see that each school shelter is separately made to fit the place it has been ordered to be put up. There are no standard sizes and everything is custom made to fit the space exactly the way that is intended. This is a great way to save some money.

Playground play equipment has evolved from the basic wooden or metal swings, see-saws and slides produced over a century ago. The playground is considered by children specialists as being the first place, where children learn social skills that are prolonged during the childhood. However, the most effective Playground play equipment is the only type that is not fully supervised by parents.
If you allow your children to play in the fresh air then the child will get to exercise and will be healthier. Furthermore, having fun with extremely good Playground play equipment will not only provide a perfect place for children to have fun and get loads of physical activities, but they will also learn skills. If you leave the child to play outside, this is equal to freedom of exploring, discovering new and interesting things about the environment and building self-confidence and independence.
If you leave your children outside to play you will also have to give them proper Playground play equipment. There are a lot of companies that are specialized in installing and especially designing Playground play equipment for children. You just have to choose the right company and select which Playground play equipment you like. You have to be really careful, because Playground play equipment has joints that can rust. You should primarily think of the child’s comfort and safety, before choosing good Playground play equipment.
Slides are one of the most popular pieces of Playground play equipment. You can find them in a lot of different shapes and designs that include bump waves, tunnels, metal and steel designs, etc. Depending on what Playground play equipment you think is fit for your child, you can choose all kinds of slides that vary in terms of age and price.
Play slide is a very popular type of Playground play equipment that is easy to install and can be moved around. You will see how your kids will thoroughly enjoy playing on it, because it is perfect for all kinds of children. The slides are unique, because they are very light-weighted.
They contain a very durable construction that is very easy to put up and has a double finish standard that is resistant to harsh temperature and conditions, and all in all, it is quite nice to look at. When you are out and about selecting the perfect Playground play equipment, you should see if the slides have been checked on different types of grounds. See if they have various colorings and pattern models. You should also consider your budget, before you decide to buy Playground play equipment. Check the prices and be careful to buy something that has warranty, because it will help you in the future.

When you want to assure your child’s safety with play surfaces you first have to take into consideration the safety factor. The playground equipment has to be approved safe and it has to meet some requirements that guarantee the children playing will not get harmed. Play surfaces are not the exception. When you want to choose playground surfacing, you have to be careful that every material meets the safety measure requirements.

There are a lot of types of playground surfaces available in specialized shops for people that want to put a playground in place for their child. Playground surfacing has its own benefits that make it a safe surface for children to play on. Among the playground surfaces that you can find, playground surfacing made of rubber is one of the most used play surfaces that keep children free of injuries.
These playground surfaces made of rubber are very good with attenuating shocks and are also makes great playground surfacing for grounds that might experience earthquakes. Furthermore, they keep the child safe from falling and it limits the injuries that happen, because they are equipped with padding that is very soft in order to prevent breaking of bones, sprains and other kinds of bruises that can happen to children while playing. Keep in mind that some children have fun in quite a rough way.

Rubber playground surfacing is safe, because it is loose filled in comparison to other materials. The shredded rubber, wood and sand can easily hide dangerous things in them. Pins, glass shards and needles can also be hidden somewhere inside and they are almost impossible to spot. Furthermore, these playground surfaces can’t be put up on hard surfaces, because they compress in time and they will make the rubber surfaces hard. You have to constantly change for it not to become hard.

The surface of mats made of rubber is flat and you can easily see dangerous items and it also gives easier access to children. There are no dangers that your child will trip, fall and will hurt himself. This is the biggest advantage of playground surfaces. They are also beneficial for children with walking disabilities, because they can play along with other children.
Playground surfaces have a unique texture, this is why when you decide to buy one, you will have to ask the expert which is suitable. You have to be careful not to leave sand or any other scratches on the surface, because the child can get hurt. If you encounter wood splinters, remove them because the child can get seriously injured. In conclusion, these surfaces are great for playground equipment, because they protect children and rubber surfaces for the best, because they are easy to maintain.

My children had an INSET day last Friday, so both my husband and I had planned to have the day off to make the most of a day out at Alton Towers all together.

Everything was fabulous apart from the weather!! The tickets were booked in advance on a corporate deal and as we were about to enter the park I was told that we had then spent a fortune on Fastrack tickets. When questioned, my husband unashamedly admitted that because he hadn’t visited Alton Towers for several years, he was fully intending to take advantage of all the rides to the absolute maximum. I must own up at this point: he is a bit of a thrill-seeker type, but has been in a sort of adrenaline drought since the bungee-jumping and sky-diving in NZ. He’s had the odd flying lesson and a couple of other exciting high-ropes and zipwire experiences but not much in the way of amusement parks.

Husband and daughter loving Nemesis - woo-hoo!!!

Living within only an hour’s drive of AT, I was flabbergasted to find out that we would be leaving the house at 7.30am, meaning we were waking earlier than on a work/school day!! His determination to enjoy the day was not dampened when we checked the weather out of the window only to see the dismal dreary rain coming down. The man had the bit in between his teeth and we were off!! The next hurdle after our arrival was negotiating the early ride session which we were actually not entitled to. A little bit of blagging and a lot of sweet talking goes a long way and we enter the park not long after 9.10am while Joe-Public would only be allowed in at 10am. Result!! The children were ecstatic and my husband was beside himself. The excitement started becoming contagious and I could feel a little bit of anxiety rising inside me as we made our way to the ride which our friends talked about most, Rita. The beauty of not having any queues outweighed the torrential rain which began to fall and my family soon forgot how embarrassing I looked in my plastic see-through poncho after their 3rd consecutive ride on Rita.

Mums & sons thought this one would be pedestrian - not so: rickety & rattly which added to the effect of speed!!

Needless to say the adrenaline was flowing – should I say – gushing through the grown-ups’ systems by now and the pure excitement of returning to childhood and allowing ourselves to be big children again was immense!! We had the best day and we want to do it all over again as soon as possible!!!!

With the warm weather being announced again, children will be wanting to spend more time outdoors during the week, as well as at week-ends. It’s all well and good playing outside and staying active and fit in the playground, but Nurseries, Pre-Schools, Primary Schools and Secondary Schools alike need to remind their children of the fantastic Australian campaign from a few years ago, to stay safe in the sun. Granted – they have a much higher incidence of cancer down there due to the sun’s rays being so much stronger & more harmful, but seeing children by the river’s edge last week-end bearing all – including red raw shoulders – was a sight for sore eyes. Parents need to provide their children with sun-cream, and explain to them how to apply it properly, so that they may still enjoy the outdoors safely, without burning.

So, SLIP, SLAP, SLOP:

Slip on a t-shirt: don’t let toddlers go to pre-school in strappy tops – make sure their shoulders are covered, they have plenty of water to drink and avoid the heat between 11am and 3pm.

Slap on a hat: To avoid the risk of heatstroke, a hat will help keep the sun off children’s heads, while they are exerting themselves outside!

Slop on some sun-screen: A high factor sun cream or spray will do the trick – and regular application before each play time is necessary.

ENJOY THE OUTDOORS SAFELY!!

Nurseries and primary schools play a unique role in teaching children prevention messages in a fun way, so that they really learn, rather than just being able to parrot safety messages. Teaching children about concepts such as near and far, fast and slow all help them to build the skills they will need to stay safer as they grow.

Of course this isn’t an exercise in wrapping children up in cotton wool. There’s no doubt that the knocks and scrapes of life are what help children to develop and to understand their physical capabilities. The challenge for nurseries, teachers and parents is finding the balance between allowing children the space to test their physical abilities while creating a safe environment for them to do this within. On the one hand children need challenging playground equipment to stretch themselves, but the schools need to make sure the adequate safety surfacing has been installed beneath the playground equipment, in order to prevent accidents.
