Case study: Mossley Road Primary School – Sue Aston, Head Teacher

Pentagon returns to Mossley for the Juniors’ playground!!

BACKGROUNDMossley Road Primary School

Pentagon had installed a gazebo as an outdoor classroom, a playboat and a trim trail in the Infants’ playground a couple of years ago, which Mossley Primary School had been very happy with.

When our consultant returned to the school in November 2010, the Head Teacher explained, “We just have to do something for the Juniors; their play area is dismal in comparison to the recently developed Infants’ playground. Plus, since the school is planning to extend over part of the Juniors’ playground, it is only fair to do something to compensate for this loss of space.”

So this time, the ideas Pentagon suggested to the PTA andto the School Council were aiming to keep the children morephysically active at playtimes.

The log labyrinth is a fantastic open ended climbingframe which encourages stretching and upper body strength, while themore challenging trim trail they chose promotes co-operation, teamwork and physical fitness. Both items required safety surfacing so the school chose green Saferturf to go beneath the trim trail and a black Saferturf with moon and stars design to go beneath the log labyrinth.

THE SOLUTIONMossley Road Primary School

Sue Aston, Head Teacher commented, “It is brilliant to see the children so active, enjoying themselves outdoors!

The equipment we have selected presents a variety of challenges and it is delightful to see the more able children helping the younger ones around the more difficult items. Pentagon answered our brief perfectly and they have been very focused on our needs from start to finish.”
